An American Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for the many blessings in my life. Thank you for allowing me to be born in the greatest country in the history of the world. Throughout the ages, countries have been founded by and for specific ethnic groups and only blending cultures through domination. Never before has a country been built on a principle of true democracy and religious freedom. You cannot describe an American by the color of their skin, or their eyes, or their hair. You cannot even describe an American by how they pray to you.
Thank you for living in the hearts and minds of our leaders as well as the men and women who have fought for my many freedoms. It was not the preservation of any one culture, religion, or ethnicity that they fought to preserve, because as Americans we do not share those things in common. They fought, still fight today, and will always fight to protect the heart and soul of this great Country. This young, strong, and unique Country where all people are created equal, and we can look past our many differences to truly become one nation under God.
Thank you for my family and friends. They are the flowers in the garden of my life. Each one has his or her own unique gift that they share with me every day. Thank you for blessing them, watching over them, and guiding them by means of the Holy Spirit as they navigate the great and stormy sea of political and social opinions that surround us all.
Thank you Lord for reminding every American to pause and reflect when presented with political and social information provided by media, as there is often a double agenda by those presenting it. News is big money. Spreading fear causes a dependency on media which in turn makes money for those providing the news. Please help us to remember Father that evil is fluent in your beautiful word, and it delights in planting seeds of hate in Your name.
Thank you for living always in my heart and mind as well as the hearts and minds of my family, friends, and fellow Americans when presented with political propaganda that promotes hate. Thank you for allowing us the right and privilege of voicing our opinion and the ability to question the action of our leaders. However, please help us to have the courage to stand up against useless negativity and counterproductive slander of our elected President and officials- even though sometimes it is humorous in nature.
I ask you God to helps us to never forget that although we have made many technical advances in today’s modern age, the only gift that truly separate us from our ancestors – the ones that caused, or where indifferent to, or fought against great suffering, are the lessons we learned from the outcome of their behavior – good and bad. Those lessons cannot and should not ever be forgotten.
Thank you Lord for your love, grace, and sacrifice on our behalf. I love You. Amen.
